STRUT began in 2005 when Kelli Lemon, Assistant Director of Programs and Events on the Monroe Park Campus set out to create an ÒexperienceÓ that would appeal to everyone. STRUT is 50% fashion, 50% entertainment, and a must-see. It is completely student run and operated and showcases fashions from local retailers and designers. STRUT does not discriminate when it comes to selecting models: all sizes, shapes, races, and styles are welcome. Anyone in the Richmond area is welcome to participate by contributing fashions for or modeling in the show.
Historically, the STRUT Fashion Show has always been held in the Spring in VCUÕs Stuart C. Siegel Center on Broad Street. Over 2,000 people attend the STRUT Fashion Show each year and over 100 people work to make the show a success.
In 2007, STRUT became an official student organization and joined the Programs Commission at VCU. The STRUT office can be found in room 229 of the University Student Commons. After guiding the STRUT committees for several years, Kelli Lemon passed the reigns on to Justin Castonguay, Event Coordinator of the programs office and STRUT veteran.
